May 22, 2019 Wednesday Bath, ME to Conway, NH

Ready to start riding

Cheery face and raring to go.
Much water here.

Another big lake.

Back roads usually don't have a bike lane.  But they do have a lot less traffic.

Another nice looking farm.

Some farms are in bad need of repairs.

May 28, 2019 Tuesday Fulton to Victor, NY

Cold, rain and wind does not fit my style of riding.  So in my humble opinion weather conditions today are not conducive for a enjoyable bike riding experience.  I choose to drive to Victor, NY and visit my nephew, Trent Sutton and his wife Elizabeth.
We stopped in Palmyra to see some historical sites of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

The Palmyra Temple

Home of Joseph Smith, first prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Field just south of the Smith home.

Home of Trent and Elizabeth Sutton in Victor, NY.  Trent is an attorney in international law and is being transferred this coming fall to Singapore for five years.  They are excited about that.

May 27, 2019 Monday Rome to Fulton, NY

Lake Oneida.  Water, water everywhere.

Start of today's ride.  Out of the city and on the correct highway.  Nice wide bicycle lane.  Revis follows along behind me.  My license plate is LO2W for Larry on 2 wheels.

We stopped for a snack at a store and a lady wanted to take our picture but couldn't find her phone.   I suggested she take it with my phone and then send it to hers.  She wanted to post it on facebook

In my humble opinion weather conditions were conducive for a perfectly enjoyable riding experience  and I rode for 50 enjoyable miles today

Beautiful golf course alongside the highway in Monroe, NY.

May 26, 2019 Sunday Church in Rome, NY

Attended church services at the Rome Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They had a pot-luck dinner after services ended at noon.  Met a member of the ward who lived in New Mexico years go and knew some of Revis' relatives.

May 25, 2019 Saturday Shoreham, VT to Rome, NY

Driving to the bridge over Lake Champlain from the Ferry that was not yet open.

Typical looking farm in western Vermont

Orchard in bloom

Entering New York State after crossing Lake Champlain.  After crossing Lake Champlain it started raining and in my humble opinion the weather conditions were not conducive for a enjoyable riding experience. So we drove on to Rome, NY.

The Bed and Breakfast Inn in Shoreham, Vt

Nest of a hawk or an eagle.

May 24, 2019 Friday Lincoln NH to Shoreham, VT

The check engine light came on and the truck needed an oil change.  The weather was so cold even the local people were complaining about it.  They were wondering "Where is spring?"  So today was a good day to get the truck checked out and serviced.  A typical small-town garage.  Greasy, dirty, parts laying all over, but they have a good reputation with the local people.  The owner's dad started the garage in 1957.

Another view of the garage.

I liked this sign in the customer waiting room.

Our bill was in the Klunk-Ping-Klunk price range.

Picture of the owner's dad who opened this garage in 1957.
Since in my humble opinion again weather conditions were not conducive to a enjoyable riding experience, we drove on to Middlebury, VT.  No vacancies in motels there.  Phoned ahead to a Bed and Breakfast in Shoreham, VT.

May 23, 2019 Thursday Conway to Lincoln, NH

Beautiful river running parallel to the road.

This is what I see when I look in my helmet mirror.

Another view of the river.

This sign tells about the highway and the river.

I didn't know there were moose in the continental US. I thought they were in Alaska and northern Canada.  Only rode 31 miles today.  The first 18 miles were uphill and then I finally reached the pass and the beginning of a fast 13 mile downhill ride. Then the clouds opened up and in my humble opinion weather conditions were not conducive to an enjoyable riding experience so we drove to Lincoln, NH and a nice warm motel room.

May 21, 2019 Tuesday Belfast to Bath, ME

Haddock filets and fries for dinner in Bath, ME.

Dinner at a tavern on the shore of the Kennebec River in Bath, ME.  Great tasting fried Haddock.  In the background you can see the bridge over the river.  Revis tripped stepping onto the curb walking back to the Hampton Inn.  Nothing hurt but her pride and a little scrape on her knee.

May 20, 2019 Bar Harbor, ME to Belfast, ME

Today was the first day riding and was a very cold and wet day. Rained for about three hours in the morning.  My head and legs were wet and cold.  I did have a rain jacket on and that really helped.  I do not enjoy riding when it's cold and wet.
Ready to start pedaling and it's cold.

Waiting for the green light.

May 18 and 19 in Bar Harbor, ME

First order of business on Saturday is to get the brakes fixed.  Somehow in transit on the carrier the rear disk brake got our of alignment and was rubbing the brake pad.  Found a really nice bicycle shop in Bar Harbor to do the job.  Problem solved.
Me and Revis with the shop owner on the left and the bike tech on the right.  While the tech was working on the bike the owner, who is on the town council was telling us all about Bar Harbor and the sites we  might enjoy seeing and directions how to get there.
Just around the corner from the bicycle shop was this view of part of the bay.  Everything is so green and wet here.

View of the harbor from the top of Cadillac Mountain.

Another view of the harbor from Cadillac Mountain
Typical tourist town with narrow streets and lots of souvenir shops and eateries.
My granddaughter, Lexy Wadsworth Ehlert and her husband Ben, connived with Revis and surprised me in Bar Harbor. What a surprise when they stepped out in front of us as we were walking towards the restaurant where I thought we were having dinner with some old friends of Revis' from Farmington, New Mexico and just happened to be in Bar Harbor this weekend.  Lexy just finished her graduate degree at Harvard University in Boston and are moving back to Arizona.
The lobster was delicious.  I ate the clams two times that night; my first time and my last time.  Fortunately Ben  likes clams so they didn't go to waste.
Beautiful homes overlooking the bay.

This begins Larry and Revis' bicycle journey from Bar Harbor, ME to San Diego, CA.  After a five day drive to Bar Harbor from their home in Mesa, AZ, they relaxed in Bar Harbor on  Saturday and Sunday the 18th and 19th of May 2019.  They commenced their ride on Monday May 20th.
This truly is a team effort with Larry riding the bike and his wife Revis driving the support vehicle.
Pictures are very slow in loading from phone to computer.  Pictures taken three days ago have yet to show  up on computer.  If you've signed on here and haven't seen anything posted, keep checking for I'll keep trying.
