A monumental tribute in town to the bravery of Elfego Baca when held off irate ranchers over a dispute in the late 1800's
Nyla baked some bread. Good, very good.

July 18, 2013 Thursday, Did not ride, Day 48 of trip.
Decided to stay in Reserve until Monday and time my last days ride into Douglas, AZ for Saturday July 27th. A friend Paul Champion suggested that he and some friends would like to ride the last day with me. That sounded like a really neat idea to me so I extended that idea and invitation to my family. So the plan is this: Ride to Glenwood on Monday, ride to Silver City on Tuesday, ride to Lordsburg on Wednesday, stay in Lordsburg on Thursday, ride to Apache (Geronimo surrender monument) on SR 80 northeast of Douglas on Friday, meet at the monument and ride into Douglas on Saturday.
John drove me over to Luna and Alpine and gave me a tour of the area. Nice ride.
This evening while John was at volleyball practice he let me drive his truck to look for elk at dusk. Four miles north of town there was a herd of about 50 elk in one of the meadows and a bull elk that danced around for me on the highway while I snapped pictures of him. The elk were far away so look very small in the pictures above.
